Chamonix is located in a valley between giant mountains. We are
headed up a mountain on a cable car. It is Day 19.
That's Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in Europe.
A view from L'Aguille du Midi. It was very cold up here and I had
dressed in shorts.
We took a hike on the other side of Chamonix the day before. I drew
our path up the mountain as best I could. It was a kilometer up in
elevation and we did it in only a couple hours before dinner. We were
really under-prepared, and we could have gotten stranded in the dark.
We are now on a gondola going over a glacier.
There's what a gondola looks like.
More ice and snow. We actually stepped into Italy briefly since this
gondola ended right at the Italien border.
Now we are on the way down. We got off at about a kilometer up in
elevation and hiked down. It was sort of treacherous because we got
caught in rain totally unprepared.
Another view.
We were absolutely exhausted at the end of the day and took naps. I
also really banged up my knees. My right knee still hurts from the
hiking and it's five months later.
